United Airlines has rolled out United Live Activities for Apple Watch users, opening up access to the handy feature to more customers. Introduced last year, United Live Activities provides real-time flight information, such as gate, boarding pass, and a countdown clock to departure, on your iOS smartphone lock screen.

United Live Activities now on Apple Watch

The airline said the move will help even more of its customers enjoy a seamless airport experience after rolling out Live Activities for iPhone last year. Much like how the feature works on an iPhone, Apple Watch users will be able to access key flight information at a single glance or touch.

The feature can be found in the Smart Stack on Apple Watch. Information will adapt dynamically as the journey progresses, displaying the information passengers need at the right moments. With a quick tap of any Live Activities notification, passengers will instantly open the United app to access anything else needed.

Since it was rolled out almost 18 months ago, Live Activities compatibility has gone down well with iPhone users. Along with the Lock Screen functionality, iPhone 14 Pro users and up can get updates through the phone’s Dynamic Island.

While it might seem like a small tweak, it saves passengers the need to unlock their phone, find the United app, then search through the app for relevant information. Instead, travelers will find critical information, including boarding gate, seat number, baggage carousel number, and boarding pass, at a single glance.

As Linda Jojo, Chief Customer Officer for United, explained,

This new feature is another way United is leveraging technology to improve our customers’ travel journey. It’s going to save passengers a lot of time, and we think they’re going to love it, especially during a busy travel season.”

United isn’t the first US airline to introduce Apple Watch compatibility – American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and JetBlue apps are also on Apple Watch, and a handful of other carriers, including British Airways, Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines, are too.

United on top of its tech game

United has made significant technological investments to improve the customer experience, with the United app seeing up to three million daily users. It has also introduced unique features, such as the ‘Agent on Demand’ feature – which lets passengers video call or message a customer service agent without queuing at the airport – or its ‘Terminal Guide,’ which provides point-to-point navigation in the airport on the day of the flight.

The carrier made headlines earlier this month after announcing a partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink to install free, high-speed inflight WiFi on its entire 1,000-strong fleet in the coming years, transforming the onboard experience for passengers.
