Uganda Airlines has confirmed it will launch flights between Entebbe and London.
There had been speculation for some time that the flag carrier was set to announce a new route to Gatwick, and the airline has now confirmed on its social media pages that a four-times-weekly service will launch on 18 May.
Flights will depart Entebbe International Airport at 0925 on Sundays, 0005 on Tuesdays, 0025 on Wednesdays and 0310 on Fridays, arriving into Gatwick at 16,55, 0735, 0755 and 1040 respectively.
The return leg leaves London at 1905 on Sundays, 0940 on Tuesdays, 0950 on Wednesdays and 1240 on Fridays, arriving back into Entebbe at 0635 (following day), 2110, 2120 and 0010 (following day) respectively.
The route will be served by Uganda Airlines’ A330-800neo aircraft, which are configured with 20 seats in business class, 28 in premium economy and 210 in economy.
Uganda Airlines is one of only a handful of carriers to operate the A330-800neo, with the others being Air Greenland and Kuwait Airways.
This compares to nearly 30 customers and 384 aircraft orders for the A330-900 variant.
British Airways has previously flown between Heathrow and Entebbe, but this route was dropped back in 2015.
The news of Uganda Airlines’ route between Entebbe and Gatwick follows Kenya Airways’ announcement of a new service between Nairobi and Gatwick, complementing its existing Nairobi-Heathrow route.
