Airspace closures across the Middle East have forced thousands of cancellations, grounded major hubs, and rerouted long-haul traffic worldwide – marking one of the most significant aviation disruptions since the pandemic.
The departure boards at some of the world’s busiest hub airports have turned a uniform shade of red. For a third consecutive day, large sections of Middle Eastern airspace remain closed following joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran and subsequent Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and Gulf states hosting U.S. military bases.
The result is one of the most severe disruptions to global aviation since the pandemic – measured not in inconvenience, but in airspace emptied, aircraft diverted mid-ocean, and tens of thousands of travelers stranded across continents.
