You also have to be aware of potential scams and security risks—one of which involves the QR codes you may be required to scan at various points during your trip.
According to a recent 2026 McAfee report on travel scam experiences and digital behaviors, 62% of travelers are putting themselves at risk by scanning QR codes while they’re in transit or in a new place. When you mindlessly pull out your phone and scan the QR code for a restaurant menu or to download a hotel’s app, there’s a chance you could expose your personal data to scammers or malicious websites.
