Switzerland’s flag carrier SWISS announced that it would install its new premium economy class on all of its Airbus A340s. These new cabins will be fully available by April, and the new seating class will be bookable for the destinations served with this fleet. As of January 2023, SWISS operates this aircraft model on 26 weekly flights in three routes departing from Zurich to Hong Kong, Johannesburg, and Chicago O’Hare, according to data from Cirium.
The company’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), Tamur Goudarzi Pour, said,
“Our new premium economy class has rapidly established itself as a hugely popular way of travel. And the highly positive feedback that we’ve received from our customers – on the greater seating comfort, the enhanced service, the wider choice of meals and the quality of the food – has only strengthened our resolve to offer this top-quality product on more of our routes.”
Where can we find this premium economy cabin?
SWISS has installed premium economy Class throughout its Boeing 777-300ER fleet, whose first aircraft was completed at the end of February 2022. SWISS was the first airline in the Lufthansa Group to introduce the best-in-class premium economy seat, which sets new comfort benchmarks with its pitch of almost a meter and its 48-centimeter width.
According to data from ch-aviation, the member of the Lufthansa Group operates 12 Boeing 777-300(ER)s, of which nine are currently active. The average age of the fleet is 12.4 years old.
SWISS’ Boeing 777-300(ER) can carry 340 passengers in a three-class cabin. There are eight first class closed suites, 62 seats of business seats, and 270 economy. According to Cirium, SWISS currently operates 94 weekly flights employing the Boeing 777-300(ER). Departing from Zurich, SWISS uses these planes in commercial services to Bangkok, São Paulo, Los Angeles, Miami, Tokyo, San Francisco, and Singapore.
The airline based in Zurich has a fleet of 109 aircraft. This week SWISS also announced that it would name 20 Airbus A220 aircraft after Swiss tourist areas and resorts to promote tourism to places such as Haslital, Saas-Fee, and Val Surses. SWISS has 33 Airbus A220-300s, including three subleased to airBaltic. It also has 14 Airbus A320ceos, six A320neos, seven A321ceos, two A321neos, 14 A330-300s, four A340-300s, 12 Boeing 777s, and 16 Embraer E190s.
SWISS operates around 1,260 weekly flights, according to data from Cirium. One in every three flights is operated with the airline’s Airbus A220-300 (414). The Boeing 777-300 only operates 94 weekly flights as of January 2023.
