Qatar Airways will move its operations to the New Terminal One at New York JFK in 2026, and debut its first dedicated lounge in the US.
The airline has been operating from JFK’s Terminal 8 since 2018, but will soon join several international carriers in relocating to the new US$9.5 billion terminal. These include Air New Zealand, Air France-KLM, Air China, Air Serbia, China Airlines, Etihad, EVA Air, Gulf Air, Korean Air, Neos, LOT Polish Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, SAS, Philippine Airlines and Turkish Airlines
The new terminal is currently being built on sites occupied by T1 and the former T2 and T3, with a phased construction that is set to complete in 2030. Ahead of this passengers can look forward to new arrivals and departures halls, plus a set of 14 new gates in 2026.
What’s more, Qatar Airways will open its very first lounge in the United States at the new terminal. The 1,394 sqm lounge will offer VIP check-in services and direct access to the boarding gate, as well as premium F&B options, relaxation zones, prayer rooms, children’s play areas and duty-free shopping for the airline’s business class passengers.
The airline’s group CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, described the move as demonstrative of “Qatar Airways’ long-standing commitment to connecting global travellers to New York and expanding our services in the destination integral to our network in the US.”
The airline’s network in the US spans 11 destinations, with 18 weekly flights from New York JFK.
The New Terminal One CEO, Jennifer Aument, added that the airline’s “decision to partner with the New Terminal One reaffirms the strong value we offer international carriers seeking to grow their presence in New York”.
By 2030, the New Terminal One will be the largest terminal at JFK, spanning 2.3 million sq ft and comprising a total of 23 gates.
The new terminal is part of a US$19 billion transformation of JFK airport, which will include two new terminals, the modernisation and expansion of two existing terminals, a new ground transportation centre, and a new simplified roadway network.
Earlier this year the airport announced plans for a refresh of its Terminal 5, with a redesigned centre concourse and 40 new concessions.
