Qatar Airways has announced plans to serve Bogotá and Caracas from “early summer 2025”.

Flights are not yet on sale, and schedules have yet to be confirmed, but the carrier said it would offer a twice-weekly service departing Doha on Wednesdays and Sundays, routing nonstop to Bogotá and then continuing to Caracas. The return leg will operate nonstop from Caracas to Doha.

Qatar Airways its 15th and 16th destinations in the Americas will represent the first nonstop flights from the Middle East to Colombia, and the only service by a Middle Eastern carrier to Venezuela.

Fellow ME3 carrier Emirates launched daily flights to Bogotá in summer 2024, but these route via Miami. At the time of launch the airline said that “Due to the high altitude of the city of Bogotá, it is not possible to operate a nonstop flight from Dubai, deeming a stopover necessary”.

Qatar Airways will operate the new service with a Boeing 777-200LR aircraft fitted with 42 seats in business class and 234 in economy. The carrier said flights would go on sale “shortly”.

Flights to the Colombian and Venezuelan capitals will join the airline’s existing South American route to the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, which first launched in 2010.

Qatar Airways has previously operated flights to Buenos Aires, but these have been suspended since the Covid-19 pandemic, despite initial plans to resume the route in 2023.

Commenting on the news Qatar Airways Group chief executive officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, said:

“The launch of flights to Bogotá and Caracas marks a transformative moment for Qatar Airways and for travellers to South America. As the first airline to offer nonstop service from the Middle East to Colombia and the only Middle Eastern carrier flying to Venezuela, we are creating new opportunities to connect people, cultures, and commerce.

“Passengers can look forward to experiencing Qatar Airways’ world-class in-flight hospitality as we continue to reach new heights in long-haul travel with our second longest flight into the Americas. These routes embody our commitment to pioneering travel experiences and redefining global connectivity with our award-winning service.”
