Oman Air has become the 15th member of the oneworld alliance.
Reports of the Muscat-based carrier seeking to join oneworld first surfaced in 2021, and the speculation was confirmed in June 2022.
Oman Air becomes the third Middle Eastern airline to join oneworld, following Royal Jordanian in 2007, and Qatar Airways in 2013.
It also follows Fiji Airways being welcomed as a full alliance member earlier this year.
In addition to joining oneworld, Oman Air will also launch a new nonstop service between Muscat and Amsterdam tomorrow (1 July), adding to the carrier’s existing European destinations including London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Milan, Munich, Paris and Rome.
In total the airline serves 42 destinations across 22 countries and territories.
Commenting on the news Nat Pieper, CEO of oneworld, said:
“We are proud to welcome Oman Air to the oneworld family. Oman Air brings valuable strategic reach and award-winning product and service to the alliance.
“This partnership opens up exciting new connections for our customers, particularly across the Gulf and South Asia, and reinforces oneworld’s position as the premium alliance for international travellers.”
