Lufthansa has partnered with technology provider AirPortr to offer passengers a new convenient baggage collection service. Passengers departing from Frankfurt Airport can pay to have their baggage collected from their homes or hotels for as low as $26.
Convenient way to travel
Through the partnership, Lufthansa passengers departing from Frankfurt can have their suitcases and bags picked up from their homes or hotels, allowing them to travel to the airport without having to carry heavy check-in luggage. Once collected, the luggage is sealed and taken to the airport securely for check-in.
Passengers will receive real-time updates through a personalized tracking link and a digital tag receipt . Upon arrival at the airport, travelers can simply head straight to the security checkpoint and will receive their luggage upon arrival at their destinations. Commenting about the new service, Lufthansa Chief Customer Officer Heiko Reitz said:
“We aim to continuously improve the overall travel experience of our guests and further expand our premium services – both during the flight and on the ground. With the new pick-up and check-in service, we are offering our passengers another exclusive service that is unique in Germany. We are making the journey easier from the very first minute.”
Lufthansa’s enhanced offering aims to save time, offer more convenience and allow passengers hassle-free travel, especially when using public transport. According to AirPotr, 67% of its customers end up choosing public transport.
Booking the service
The new baggage pick-up service can be booked on Lufthansa’s website up to 36 hours before departure. It is available for customers in the greater Frankfurt, Mannheim, Heidelberg, Hanau, Aschaffenburg, Wiesbaden, Mainz, Darmstadt, and Bensheim areas. Lufthansa plans to extend the program to other areas in the near future.
The cost of the baggage pick-up depends on location, pick-up time, and the service requested. For example, a passenger staying at a hotel about 7.5 mi (12 km) from Frankfurt Airport and flying to Atlanta will pay at least $26 (€25) for the super-saver slots. This allows a six-hour window, and AirPortr will provide a more specific time the day before pick-up.
The saver slots, which allows a four-hour window, starts from ($31) €30, while the two-hour premium slots starts from $36 (€35). Furthermore, for certain destinations, AirPortr collects passenger luggage upon arrival and delivers it to any address within their service area. Therefore, travelers do not have to wait at the baggage carousel after landing.
Lufthansa also offers other baggage services for passengers looking to navigate through the airport faster. The digital baggage service allows them to locate their baggage throughout their journey. Upon landing, passengers receive a notification about which carousel to go to. The airline also offers self-service bag-drop kiosks at certain airports, including Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Geneva, Vienna, and Brussels.

The baggage collection service helps airlines enhance their premium offering, allowing guests to enjoy more hassle-free travel. According to AirPortr, the bags are individually sealed, secured, monitored throughout the day, and trackable. Once the luggage has been checked in, passengers receive a digital bag tag receipt. The company also offers free amendments and cancelation options.
