New electric railway planned for east Europe
A high-speed electric rail network, Rail Baltica, is part of a multimodal Ülemiste terminal planned for development in Tallinn, Estonia.
The 870km electrified Rail Baltica will be the first fast railway connection in the Baltic States, connecting Estonia to Central and Western Europe and neighbouring countries.
The Ülemiste terminal will be the starting point of the European high-speed rail network and is expected to connect to Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius.
The terminal is also expected to function as a connecting bridge and a multi-modal transport hub for commuters, directly opposite Tallinn airport, allowing for integration of bus, tram and rail networks across Eastern Europe.
The Rail Baltica route should be completed by the second quarter of 2021.
